Founder & Chairman

Monty Hoffman formed Hoffman & Associates in 1993 with a single townhouse conversion and has since then transformed the company into a nationally recognized market leader across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. With more than 30 years of experience, Monty actively leads the company’s business development, market strategy, and design initiatives for every Hoffman & Associates project.

Monty has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and CNN, and recognized in the power lists of Washington’s SmartCEO’s Future 50, Commercial Observer and was recently recognized as Washington Business Journal’s Developer of the Year.

He is a founding board member of the DC Students Construction Trades Foundation, which provides educational and apprenticeship opportunities for District students interested in design, engineering and construction. He served on the DC Public Schools Engineering Advisory Board and Federal City Council board and is an active board member of the Southwest Business Improvement District.

Monty graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology.

Chief Executive Officer

Mark Dorigan joined Hoffman & Associates in 2007, and as Chief Executive Officer, focuses on the company’s acquisition pipeline and large-scale, mixed-use, public-private projects in addition to the company’s legal and corporate affairs. Mark was responsible for the negotiation of the land disposition, development and public financing agreements with the District of Columbia, as well as the related assemblage consolidations with adjacent stakeholders for The Wharf.

Prior to joining Hoffman & Associates, Mark spent more than 10 years with The Mills Corporation (REIT) as real estate general counsel and co-general counsel. Prior to joining The Mills Corporation, Mark was a partner at McGuireWoods specializing in commercial real estate.

Mark graduated from New York University School of Law with an LL.M. in Taxation and Seton Hall University School of Law with a Juris Doctor.

President

Shawn Seaman joined Hoffman & Associates in 2001, and as President, leads the strategic vision, overall management and corporate affairs for the company across all divisions and regions. Guided by his expertise and passion, Shawn fosters a culture of innovation and excellence that has made Hoffman & Associates a nationally recognized industry leader. Prior to being named President, Shawn led development and acquisitions for the company, including the development of the $3.6 billion, mixed-use waterfront neighborhood in Washington DC, The Wharf.   

Over the past three decades, Shawn has realized over two dozen catalytic neighborhood projects in DC, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. He has more than 30 years of experience in real estate development, urban design, town planning, architecture and retail strategy, with projects throughout the United States totaling over $6 billion.  

Shawn is an active member of ULI where he currently serves on the ULI Public Private Product Council and the ULI Washington Advisory Council.  He is a board member of the Washington DC Economic Partnership and serves on the DC Developer Roundtable.  

Shawn graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in Architecture and the University of Pennsylvania with a master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Design as well as a Certificate in Real Estate Design and Development in conjunction with The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Shawn is a registered architect in the state of Florida and the District of Columbia. 

Chief Operating Officer

Maria Thompson joined Hoffman & Associates in 2015, and as Chief Operating Officer, oversees all operating divisions of the company including all projects such as The Wharf Phase 2, Waterfront Station II, Parcel B at Audi Field, Seaboard Station, RUS Bus and West Falls, representing $6B of Hoffman & Associates’ expanding portfolio.

With nearly three decades of industry experience, Maria has managed projects totaling nearly $4B in the DC Metro Area. She previously served as Vice President of Business Acquisition at Balfour Beatty and started her career as a Project Engineer at Clark Construction.

Maria is deeply involved in various professional organizations, holding active roles in DCBIA and Women In Construction, where she currently serves on the executive board for both. She is also an engaged member of ULI, acting as a mentor for the YGL program, and contributes to CREW DC as a member of the President’s Advisory Council. Additionally, Maria actively participates in ABC Metro Washingtonian, AAREP DC, ASCE, NSBE, and NABWIC.

Maria has been recognized by GlobeSt as a Women of Influence and honored by the Washington Business Journal as a Diversity in Business Leader and Women Who Mean Business recipient. She graduated from Morgan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and the University of Maryland University College with a Master of Science in Management.

Chief Investment Officer

Jon McAvoy joined Hoffman & Associates in 2011, and as Chief Investment Officer, leads the company’s financial division including accounting, acquisitions, asset management, as well as corporate and project capitalization for the company’s portfolio, including The Wharf Phase 2, Seaboard Station in Raleigh and West Falls in Virginia valued at $6B.

Prior to joining Hoffman & Associates, Jon worked for multiple Fortune 500 corporations, including Harman International, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and Freddie Mac. His experience includes banking operations, multi-national corporate investment portfolio management, mortgage-backed securities trading, product development and credit analysis.

Jon graduated from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business with a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Executive Vice President of Multifamily & Brand

Michelle Giannini joined Hoffman & Associates in 2002, and as Executive Vice President of Multifamily & Brand, manages all aspects of the Sales and Marketing division for Hoffman & Associates’ residential portfolio, including development and implementation of the marketing and branding for each property, management of the company’s in-house sales team, and coordination of legal documentation, including Public Offering Statements for the condominiums. In addition to managing the company’s residential portfolio, she is responsible for developing, managing, and executing the company’s corporate brand and communications.

Michelle has more than two decades of experience in the real estate industry. Prior to joining Hoffman & Associates, Michelle was an attorney with Linowes & Blocher, where she practiced real estate transactional and condominium law.

Michelle graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and the University of San Francisco School of Law with a Juris Doctor. She is the Principal Broker for Hoffman Realty.

Executive Vice President of Development

John Florian joined Hoffman & Associates in 2018, and as Executive Vice President of Development, leads the firm’s expansion in the Southeast region. John led the company’s first venture, the acquisition and re-development of Seaboard Station, a multi-phase, mixed-use project in Raleigh, North Carolina, and is also currently leading the transit-oriented development in partnership with GoTriangle, RUS Bus along with the private development, Union West.

John is also the founder of Florian Companies, a real estate development, construction management, and investment firm located in Raleigh, North Carolina. In addition to having extensive knowledge of the Carolinas’ market, John brings over 35 years of experience in mixed-use development, design and construction management.

Prior to joining Hoffman & Associates, John served as Director of Operations for The Donohoe Companies for over 12 years, where he gained experience in operations and construction management. In 1992, he moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he later began to grow his business, the Florian Companies, developing best-in-class relationships in the local market. Over the years, John has gained expertise in site selection, entitlements, and development oversight for multi-family and mixed-use projects in the Carolinas.

John graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s School of Architecture.

Executive Vice President of Construction Field Operations

John Bradley joined Hoffman & Associates in 1996, and as Executive Vice President of Construction and Field Operations, leads the Operations and Quality Assurance division of Hoffman & Associates, which conducts internal homeowner inspections and manages warranty service work. Additionally, he is responsible for managing the construction phase of developments, coordinating product quality, interior finish selections and change order implementation.

Prior to joining the company, John owned and managed JR & Associates Construction Co., a residential builder.

John graduated from Liberty Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Senior Vice President of Design

Martiena Schneller joined Hoffman & Associates in 2012, and as Senior Vice President of Design, determines design and quality standards across the company’s portfolio and manages the retail development division. With over a decade of experience, Martiena utilizes her architectural and urban planning background to guide her development and construction management role.

Across her time at Hoffman & Associates, Martiena has worked on several notable projects including all residential units, office buildings and entertainment venues at The Wharf. Beyond her work on The Wharf, Martiena managed the public-private partnership with Montgomery County in Bethesda for two residential projects: The Darcy and The Flats, along with The Bower, a 137-unit condominium at The Yards and The Banks, a 10-story apartment residence located in Southwest DC. She is currently focused on the company’s expanding portfolio including Seaboard Station, West Falls and Parcel B at Audi Field.

Prior to joining Hoffman & Associates, Martiena served in architectural and construction management roles at Lukemire Partnership, EE&K Architects and Wiencek & Associates. Across her career she has contributed to the community by volunteering her architectural skills to projects for Habitat for Humanity, Christmas In April DC and District of Columbia Building Industries Association Community Improvement.

Martiena is a LEED® Accredited Professional. She graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and the University of Maryland with a Master of Architecture.

Senior Vice President of Development

Mary Beth Avedesian joined Hoffman & Associates in 2023, and as Senior Vice President of Development manages several projects across the region including the company’s large scale mixed-use development, West Falls, in Falls Church Virginia and the multifamily development, 4600 Fairfax Drive, in Ballston, Virginia.

Mary Beth brings over three decades of experience in the Washington, DC, region with a focus on the Northern Virginia market, specifically. Prior to joining the company, she served as Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Development at B. F. Saul Company. Her notable projects at B.F. Saul Company include Tysons Park Place I in McLean, VA; The Waycroft in Arlington, VA; and Hilton Homewood Suites Hotel in Rosslyn, VA.

Mary Beth serves on the Board and Executive Committee of the Northern Virginia Chapter of NAIOP, an industry association which she chaired from 2020 to 2022.  She is also a graduate of the ULI Leadership Class of 2012 and has served as a guest lecturer teaching real estate at George Mason University. Mary Beth graduated from Michigan State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Applied Sciences and the Harvard Business School where she earned a Master of Business Administration.

Senior Vice President of Development

David Roberts joined Hoffman & Associates in 2016, and as Senior Vice President of Development, manages projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, including Parcel B at Audi Field in partnership with DC United in Washington DC, along with mixed-use residential projects across Virginia and North Carolina. David has delivered over $200 million in development projects with the company, including The Westerly, an innovative and award-winning mixed-income apartment community in the heart of Southwest DC along with The Municipal Fish Market at The Wharf, the oldest continuously operating open-air fish market in the United States.

David brings more than 15 years of real estate development and asset management experience in both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining Hoffman & Associates, David served as the Director of Facilities and Asset Management for the Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. In this position, David oversaw the real estate acquisition, construction and asset management services to support the agency’s domestic operations. David also served as Director of Real Estate Asset Management for the Deputy Mayor’s Office for Planning and Economic Development where he served as a board member for the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation.

David graduated from The University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business with a Master of Business Administration.

 

Senior Vice President of Development

Rob Steward joined Hoffman & Associates in 2016, and as Senior Vice President of Development, serves as the project director for Seaboard Station, an expansive mixed-use development in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. In addition to project management, Rob is responsible for sourcing development opportunities, securing project entitlements, contract negotiation, community and investor relations, as well as retail leasing. Rob’s past project experience at Hoffman & Associates includes the successful redevelopment and incorporation of the Riverside Baptist Church into a 250,000-square-foot mixed-use development in Southwest Washington, DC.

Rob brings over 15 years of experience to Hoffman & Associates. Prior to joining the company, Rob worked extensively in acquisition, design, entitlement, and investor relations for mixed-use projects in the Washington, DC area. He also served as Director of Capital Markets for CBRE, where he worked to annually dispose $1 billion of retail assets.

Rob is a LEED® Accredited Professional. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial & Systems Engineering and the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School with a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Real Estate Development.

Senior Vice President of Construction

Chris Moore joined Hoffman & Associates in 2016 and, as Senior Vice President of Construction, manages the construction of the largest development in the history of Falls Church, West Falls, along with the company’s expanding portfolio across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Prior to West Falls, Chris managed construction for The Wharf’s Municipal Fish Market, 680 Maine, 670 Maine, and DCX, along with The Banks, representing nearly 1 billion of the company’s portfolio.

Chris brings nearly two decades of industry experience to Hoffman & Associates. Prior to joining the company, he worked for over a decade for two internationally recognized general contractors, Balfour Beatty and DPR Construction. His past projects totaled nearly $1.5B ranging from commercial office space, public assembly and cultural centers, mission critical data centers and historic preservation projects.

Chris graduated from The University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

Senior Vice President of Construction

George Sparling joined Hoffman & Associates in 2020, and as Senior Vice President of Construction, manages construction for all projects in the North Carolina region. This includes Seaboard Station, an expansive development that when complete, will feature nearly 600 residences and over 130,000 square feet of retail space set in a dynamic Raleigh neighborhood.

George brings over four decades of industry experience to Hoffman & Associates. Prior to joining the company, George led and operated several general contracting firms across the southern region, focusing on residential and commercial construction. Most recently, George was a Managing Member of GHS Consulting Services, LLC, based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

George graduated from Florida State University’s College of Business with a Bachelor of Science.

Senior Vice President of Construction

Tony Albanese joined Hoffman & Associates in 2014, and as Senior Vice President of Construction, oversees and manages the company’s expanding portfolio across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Across his time with the company, Tony has delivered $500 million in construction projects including 525 Water, The Anthem, The Channel, Phase 2 Horizontal and Water Buildings 1 and 2 at The Wharf as well as The Westerly, an innovative and award-winning mixed-income apartment community in the heart of Southwest DC.

Tony brings more than two decades of industry experience from some of the nation’s largest general contractors. Prior to joining Hoffman & Associates, Tony held roles in estimating, preconstruction, operations, and development, providing knowledge for turnkey delivery of construction projects from conceptual design through occupancy. In his previous positions, Tony’s notable projects include The Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater, Walter’s Art Museum, and the Maryland State Historical Society.

Tony graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

 

 

Vice President of Construction

Tuck Seid joined Hoffman & Associates in 2017, and as Vice President of Construction, leads construction for Amaris, The Wharf’s 12-story, 96-unit waterfront condominium residence as well as assisting with site-wide planning across Phase 2. Beyond The Wharf, Seid is focused on 4600 Fairfax Drive, currently in pre-development.

Prior to joining Hoffman & Associates, Tuck served as Lead Superintendent for McCullough Construction on Hine North in Eastern Market, a 35-unit affordable mixed-use development for EastBanc as well as Mission Apartments on 14th Street. In addition to serving as Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent on multiple large-scale, mixed-use developments, including City Market at O and the Waterview for Clark Construction.

Tuck graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Senior Vice President of Acquisitions

Christopher Fong joined Hoffman & Associates in 2022, and as Senior Vice President of Acquisitions, leads acquisition and pre-development efforts for Hoffman & Associates across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, focusing on new pursuits, project conceptualization, entitlements, joint-venture structuring and capitalization. Christopher’s past project experience at Hoffman & Associates includes the acquisition and capitalization for The Bower, a mixed-use condominium project at The Yards in DC.

Prior to joining the company, Christopher served as Vice President of Development for Penzance, where he oversaw all multifamily acquisitions as well as positions in financial analysis at Vornado Realty Trust and Avalon Bay Communities, Inc.

Christopher graduated from The College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.

Vice President of Capital & Asset Management

Ryan Dring joined Hoffman & Associates in 2018, and as Vice President of Capital & Asset Management oversees sourcing and negotiating financing for Hoffman & Associates projects across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. In addition to overseeing project financing, Ryan manages the operational and financial performance of Hoffman & Associates portfolio. Ryan’s past project experience at Hoffman & Associates includes managing the innovative financing of Waterfront Station II in the Southwest neighborhood of Washington, DC and the financing of West Falls in Falls Church, Virginia as well as Seaboard Station in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Prior to joining the company, Ryan served as a Senior Associate in the institutional client relationship management division of J.P. Morgan Chase and as a Senior Associate at Deutsche Bank in their credit trading and debt capital markets division.

Ryan graduated from The George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and holds a MBA from Georgetown University, McDonough School of Business.

Vice President of Accounting, Controller

Mauricio Parada joined Hoffman & Associates in 2018, and as Vice President of Accounting, Controller, he leads the accounting operations, financial reporting, income tax compliance, treasury and information technology for the company.

Mauricio brings over 15 years of accounting experience in both public and private practice for companies across various industries, including real estate, technology and hospitality. Before joining Hoffman & Associates, Mauricio served as Controller for Madison Marquette.

Mauricio is a Certified Public Accountant in Virginia. He graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Post-Baccalaureate Accounting Certificate.
